Only really the outer walls still there but still a cool place to explore and the church next door is usually open to have a look in too

A beautiful ruin set in an attractive Shropshire village and is about 10 minutes from the A49. There is enough spaces outside for 3 cars and some parked further down.
The ruins and surrounding areas were extremely peaceful and there were a few information boards dotted around explaining about the history of the castle, interesting reading too.
There is an added bonus of a beautiful church directly next door and a small peaceful wooded area on entry.
Free to enter too.

An interesting hidden find. Some information boards were helpful to work out how the castle had looked. It was a bonus to be able to visit the nearby church which was very interesting.

Although only ruins, as you can visit these for free and then visit the church next door, and nip into the cemetery, it is worth the visit for the atmospheric vibes en route to other nearby places.
It also has an interesting history, so for me it was worth a higher rating than many of the other ruins I have seen.

Interesting place to visit if you like history, there's parking (no change) and you can take a picnic as there's enough ground.
Also an old church which was open to the public,
This would also add to your interest to the visit.

I'm sure it must be a lovely quiet place as others previously have said .. but not on this occasion . I popped by to take some photos and soak up the PEACEFUL atmosphere but it was ruined by parents allowing their older children to clamber up the walls and play football INSIDE the castle . Yet again , self entitled morons masquerading as parents ruin it for the ones who want peace and quiet . Maybe they should charge a small entrance fee , that would deter them and they could then sod off back home and play football in their OWN garden .

Managed by English Heritage, free to visit site during daylight hours. Acton Burnell castle is most likely to be a fortified manor house.

Just a lovely place. It was quiet and we had evening sunshine. Glad we visited. It is a ruin but still from an historical view lovely to visit

One of English Heritage free to visit sites, couple of information boards to tell the story. The castle is largely intact, only missing windows, walls and a roof. Not a castle in the traditional sense, more a posh home. There is a bit of parking and a walk through the woods to the castle. No facilities on site but looks popular with picnics.

Easy to find. There is parking along the main drive. The main path leading to the castle was closed. There is diversion through church. The grass around the castle is long. When I visited was wet which soaked my trainers and socks. The castle is 4 sided and open.
